For this week’s visual review, I decided to write about the James Bond Casino Royale Movie Poster. From a young age, I formed an obsession with the Bond films and franchise. My dad grew up watching those films and later continued that tradition with his kids. Out of all the Bond films I’ve seen Casino Royale is definitely one of my favorites. From the cast, to the locations they filmed at, everything about this movie is glamourous and full of action. Casino Royale is the twenty-first film in the James Bond series. It was the first Bond movie Daniel Craig was a part of. The reason I chose to analyze this movie poster is because it provides a lot of detail regarding what the movie is about. Since the 60’s when the first Bond film was released, he’s been known to be a womanizer. Not only that but he’s also one of the top agents in England and manages to get himself out of some of the most dangerous situations.
In the poster you see actor Daniel Craig carrying a handgun with a silencer attached to it. If someone who had never heard of James Bond, seen this image they’d probably think he was some type of agent or assassin. In the background there’s a silhouette of a woman, most likely the Bond Girl. In every James Bond movie, there’s always a female character who plays his love interest or sidekick. Without watching the film, one could assume the silhouette of the women is someone in the film who plays his love interest. Instead of the silhouette being a dark color, the image within the silhouette is the casino Bond goes to in the film. There’s a large portion of the film that takes place within that casino, resulting in the title of the film, Casino Royale. In the bottom right corner, there’s an image of an Aston Martin. This car is pretty significant in most of the Bond films. It’s one of the first cars in the Bond series to be present in most of the films. Finally, the last significant feature on the Casino Royale movie poster is the number on the left side of the image. The number 007 is assigned to James Bond when he became an agent. Each agent is assigned a number to identify themselves with. This number has become extremely popular and when most people hear it, they think of the James Bond franchise.
I think the marketing and graphic design team did a great job at advertising the film without giving away too many details. Someone who has never seen a Bond film would have an easy time identifying what the film could be about. I think this movie poster is both sleek and says a lot about what to expect in the film.
